10. Mumbai, India

Situated on India’s west coast, Mumbai sits at the center of the world’s fifth-largest metropolitan area, home to an estimated 24.4 million people. The Gateway of India stone arch, standing proudly over Mumbai Harbour, welcomes visitors to this sprawling financial and cultural hub. Known as the heart of the Bollywood film industry, Mumbai is packed with international entertainment. In particular, the Coldplay concert in January 2025 caused an uptick in tourism in the city, helping Mumbai land at No. 10 on the list of Airbnb’s top trending destinations this year.
While that concert ended up being the largest in India’s history, Mumbai’s appeal extends well beyond its live entertainment events. With its historical shrines, Victorian Gothic architecture, and nearby Elephanta Caves showcasing ancient carvings of Hindu deities, Mumbai remains an enticing year-round destination for travelers.
9. Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Vancouver, a bustling port city on British Columbia‘s Pacific coast known for its striking natural beauty, is Canada’s top-trending city thanks to its diverse attractions, with one driving factor being the Invictus Games held in February. But even if you missed the big event, there’s plenty to do and see in Vancouver, from outdoor adventures on hiking trails and ski slopes to world-class institutions like the Museum of Anthropology.
Vancouver is also one of Canada’s most ethnically diverse cities, as reflected in its neighborhoods, including Chinatown, Little Italy, and Punjabi Market, where visitors can savor global flavors. The mild climate also makes Vancouver’s urban parks, such as the VanDusen Botanical Garden and Stanley Park, ideal for year-round recreation.
8. Kyoto, Japan

Two Japanese cities made the list of Airbnb top trending destinations for 2025. One of those cities, Kyoto, was the imperial capital of Japan for over 1,000 years. With its wealth of cultural and historical sites, this city on Japan’s Honshu Island attracts millions of tourists annually, but it is trending for a particular focus this year: family travel.
Among Kyoto’s most important landmarks are Buddhist temples, tranquil gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines, and the otherworldly Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. In the atmospheric Gion district, visitors can immerse themselves in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony or attend a geisha show. With its ancient architecture and well-preserved cultural heritage, Kyoto offers a unique opportunity to step back into Japan’s fascinating history.
7. La Serena, Chile

La Serena, the seaside capital of Chile’s Coquimbo region, is also one of Airbnb’s top-trending family destinations. Known for its sprawling beaches, most notably Avenida del Mar and Punta Choros, La Serena is among Chile’s oldest cities. Its colonial architecture, exemplified by its historic cathedrals and town squares, only adds to its charm.
Nearby, excursions to Isla Damas, part of the Humboldt Penguin Reserve, offer the chance to encounter the native birds, along with other wildlife such as whales and dolphins. Located near the Atacama Desert, La Serena is also an excellent spot for stargazing; the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory provides unparalleled views of the Milky Way.
6. Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is the only U.S. East Coast city to make Airbnb’s 2025 trending destinations list. The delightful coastal city is popular for its mild year-round climate, idyllic beaches, Southern cuisine, and family-friendly entertainment. Visitors can stroll along the historic district’s cobblestone streets while shopping at local boutiques and admiring Rainbow Row, the iconic pastel-colored row houses.
Airbnb reports that, this year, Charleston is especially popular for solo travel. Nearby Folly Beach and Isle of Palms offer plenty of fun in the sun, with no shortage of opportunities for sunbathing, surfing, and golfing. And no stay in Charleston is complete without sampling some Southern specialties, from shrimp and grits to fried green tomatoes and Low Country boil.
5. Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena, a vibrant city on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, is the top-trending Airbnb city in South America for 2025. Tourists flock here for its pristine beaches and year-round tropical climate, which can be enjoyed at Playa Blanca or the Islas del Rosario, renowned for their thriving coral reefs.
When it’s time to take a break from the surf and the sand, Cartagena’s historic town center is home to the Walls of Cartagena. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the walls have stood for over 400 years and are South America’s most preserved and complete fortification. Within these walls, you’ll find the cobblestone streets of Old Town — a maze of churches, plazas, palaces, and mansions brimming with Colombian charm.
4. Palermo, Italy

Italy is a prolific tourist destination, but this year, the 2025 Jubilee will bring millions of tourists to Rome and surrounding areas to celebrate the Catholic holy year. Palermo, the capital city of Sicily, is expected to see a tourism uptick, too. The southern Italian city blends centuries of history, art, architecture, and cuisine, making it a popular choice for travelers.
Palermo is also a popular filming location, which helps explain the recent surge in tourism. Palermo’s Cefalù Beach and Villa Tasca were filming locations for season 2 of HBO’s The White Lotus. In the heart of town, the historical Palermo Cathedral seamlessly blends the city’s storied past with the present. No visit is complete without savoring local Sicilian delicacies, from arancini to cannoli.
3. Tokyo, Japan

Japan’s bustling capital city remains a perennially popular destination for international travelers. This year, it’s the most sought-after city for one generation in particular: Gen Z. But rest assured, there is plenty to see and do for travelers of all ages.
An ultramodern city with a rich history, Tokyo offers a unique composition of architecture. On the city’s skyline, neon skyscrapers like Tokyo Skytree mingle with centuries-old temples, such as Senso-ji and the Meiji Jingu Shrine. Nearby, Akihabara, a vibrant neighborhood known for its anime and video game scene, is one of Gen Z’s most-visited locales. Meanwhile, downtown go-kart tours, delicious culinary experiences, and theme parks like Tokyo Disney provide fun for the entire family.
2. Green Bay, Wisconsin

Green Bay, known for its scenic location along Lake Michigan, is poised for a surge in tourism this year, driven in part by the 2025 NFL draft. Lambeau Field will host the draft at the end of April, drawing hundreds of thousands to the city.
Yet Green Bay offers much more than sports. Visitors can expect family fun at Bay Beach Amusement Park and plenty of outdoor serenity at the 700-acre Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary or Green Bay Botanical Garden. When it’s time to unwind, head to a nearby brewery to sample locally sourced cheese curds (a must) along with a pint.
1. Puerto Escondido, Mexico

This resort town in the Mexican state of Oaxaca is Airbnb’s top trending destination for 2025, particularly popular for group travel. From relaxing at Playa Carrizalillo to watching surfers at Playa Zicatela (known for its Mexican Pipeline surf break), Puerto Escondido boasts a laid-back, friendly atmosphere that makes it attractive to visitors who want to avoid other tourist-laden locales in Mexico.
Snorkeling and diving opportunities are plentiful at places like Isla Montosa, where you’ll likely catch a glimpse of resident sea turtles and tropical fish. Bird-watching, eco-tours, and even bioluminescence boating excursions are other popular ways to view the local wildlife. For cuisine, local fresh seafood and mezcal, known for its distinct smoky flavor, are must-try staples.
